@Michael: Thanks Micheal - a bit of luck and a quick grab of the camera out of the backpack and this was the result - actually have another but I liked the clouds and angle in this one a bit better.

Bill, I visited this photo earlier and it's fascinating... I've not seen these birds before though I know what they are. I never envisioned them in this sort of line....

@Earnest: I've never seen them grouped in these sorts of numbers but I've not lived near one of the big lakes for an extended period of times like I am this summer. I just happened to be walking along the shore and looking forward saw them massing together and then coming my way - the thing is I've been trying to get a good shot of a single one all summer and so far that has not happened...
