Islands at the EdgePosted by Bill Ault (GBA, Canada) on 26 August 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. A fairly calm night - a long exposure and this is the result... not everyone's cup of tea but I liked the results.

jamesy from christchurch, New ZealandI love it for me the Shot of the Day well done 26 Aug 2008 6:48am @jamesy: Thanks Jamesy as I said not everyone's thing but I liked the effect. Ana Lúcia from Leiria, PortugalFabulous shot. The composition, light, sharp and color all work together. 26 Aug 2008 7:00am @Ana Lúcia: Thanks Ana it did seem to come together. Gavrus Bogdan from Bucharest, RomaniaVery good photo, i love long exposures done well :DD 26 Aug 2008 7:15am @Gavrus Bogdan: Well this was very much an experiment for me and I like the look so am going to try some more at some point. @Dimitrios: That feeling does come across. Steven from Byron Center, United StatesNice photo. I like the subtle range of color in the sky, replicated in the water. Almost a mirror effect broken by the rocks. 26 Aug 2008 12:35pm @Steven: As I say an experiment that went well for a change. The "rocks" in the distance are actually trees and that's the one disappointment in the image the line of green did not come out as strong as I had hoped. sherri from Little Rock, Arkansas, United StatesI always find the sea to be tranquil. Of course I don't visit the beach during a hurricane:-) Lovely image. 26 Aug 2008 4:35pm @sherri: By the time hurricanes find us it usually means lots of water and not much else ;-) If there is such a thing as a anti-hurricane this evening was it very still, few clouds (the ones in the image were about it) and the only water to be found was in the lake... Betty from New Jersey, United StatesThe soft color is just beautiful, very nice work! 26 Aug 2008 4:45pm @Betty: Thanks as always Betty - your seagull friend Stanley would be right at home here I think... @Renata: Thanks not quite as nice as your own "Planet Earth" but I like it. @Catalin: Thanks Catalin Observing from West Cheshire, United KingdomA dreamy fantasy image, the glowing sun is giving a lovely tone. 26 Aug 2008 8:27pm @Observing: Thanks Mike - as I said an experiment gone well makes up for all the ones that didn't..... @Stefan: Thanks Stefan in part this is due to your "from the family album" image- I guessed you had extended your exposure just a bit to create the effect and wanted to see what would happen with small waves in similar conditions... DarkElf from Perth, Australiaexcellent simple composition with great subtle colours, superb smooth water surface thanks to the long exposure - very pleasing to the eye! 27 Aug 2008 1:23am Earnest from Oklahoma, United StatesIt's a great result and thanks for answering my question as to how it was done.... 28 Aug 2008 10:54am GJC from Kyoto, JapanThis is superb. The light is just wondeful and the soft feeling throughout creates a wonderful mood. 6 Sep 2008 4:00am |
