Forest Floor

Forest floor on the Cedar Wing trail, the lighting was a challenge and it turned out to be more of a problem than I expected hopefully I'll get a chance to redo as I like the shot itself....

I know what you were trying to capture and I have problems with that, too. Nice shot.

Looks like you did pretty well, Bill... my comment about the lighting yesterday applies here as well. I keep trying too...

Very acceptable Bill, I like the distant trees being darker, and the contrast in the middle is a tad hard, but it's a nice image.

@Observing: yes it's that middle third that let me down - definitely overexposed...

This is a very hard shot to take because the contrast is so high that the camera has a hard time with it. This kind of thing gives us new respect for the human eye! It is an amazingly fine-tuned instrument, much more so than even the fanciest camera. One thing you might want to try in these situations is different light meterings and then see how they look when you get home (I find the LCD screen is often not quite as accurate as I'd like). Experiment and you'll get it the way you like it.

@GJC: Yes the good old eye certainly does some wonderful things - I should have taken a couple of more exposures down a notch but without a tripod I was pushing it as it was with the shutter speed. Definitely going to try again on these though.
