Second DawnPosted by Bill Ault (GBA, Canada) on 21 November 2008 in Landscape & Rural. The sun reappears after going behind a bank of clouds giving us the unexpected benefit of what I like to call a "second" dawn.... all the more reason for just waiting that extra few minutes after sun rise or after a sunset some pretty neat things can happen.

@Marie: thanks Marie Eric Fry from Houston, TX, United StatesGorgeous sunrise photo, Bill. I like to stay around for a while, too, when the weather works out with some good clouds like that. Once I spent a few hours taking shots for HDR work at sunrise. After an hour or so, I realized that I had already taken over 300 exposures! Got a couple of good shots of the sun behind some puffy clouds a couple of hours after sunrise. The biggest problem with great mornings like that is going through all of the photos later! Again, great shot, and I really like the waterfowl in the foreground. 21 Nov 2008 11:56am @Eric Fry: thanks Eric - the ducks were an extra bonus... they (sunrise / sunset) are always worth arriving early and staying late for.... @Betty: thanks Betty - the ducks were paid the standard commission for their appearance.. @Marcie: thanks Marcie Tony Duque from Raleigh, United StatesThat's a wonderful shot, Bill! Especially love those few higher clouds still in their pink phase... barely. And I couldn't agree more with your "be patient" mantra, given that it's hard to know when you've really seen the best, or even the whole show - only by waiting it out can you be sure. Thanks for sharing! 21 Nov 2008 1:23pm @Tony Duque: thanks Tony - besides can you think of a better way to start your day than by waiting to see what the sun rise brings.... mind you the boss gets a bit touchy when you clock in a little late... @Earnest: thanks Earnest Observing from West Cheshire, United KingdomThat's a fine sunrise Bill, you must have been out pretty early..! 21 Nov 2008 9:12pm @Observing: 7ish - it's that time of year here late sunrises early sunsets and days getting shorter by the minute.... bonus though the sun never gets that high in the sky and even on clear days the shadows and depth make for great picture taking... Kathryn from Warburton, Australiagreat image!! that sky is simply superb and i love the two little ducks! 24 Nov 2008 10:54am GJC from Kyoto, JapanWhat a fine shot, and a great reminder of why we take photographs -- so that we pay more attention looking.
